Indian Stock Market Overview

What is stock market?

Stock market also called equity market or share market. This is the aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks also known as shares; these may contain securities which are listed in the stock market as well as those traded privately. Stock market is one on the most important place of free-market economy ,as it provides companies with access to capital in exchange for giving investors a slice of ownership in the company. Two most famous stock market in India are:

1. National Stock Exchange (NSE)
2. Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)

National stock exchange and Bombay stock exchange are the leading stock exchanges in India. Mumbai is the headquarter of both exchanges. 

National stock exchange is the largest stock exchange in the country and was established in April 1993. Total 659 companies are listed in the NSE.

Bombay stock exchange is the oldest stock exchange in Asia and was established in 1875 and known as The Native Shares & Stocks. Total 5788 companies are listed in BSE.

Some other stock exchanges in India are:

3. Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE), having headquarters in Kolkata, India, was established in 1908. Total 3500 companies are listed in CSE.

4. Madras Stock Exchange, having headquarters in Chennai, India, was established in 1937. Total 1785 companies are listed in Madras Stock Exchange.

5. Interconnected Stock Exchange, having headquarters in Mumbai, India, was established in 1998. Total 4500 companies are listed in Interconnected Stock     Exchange.

6. United Stock Exchange of India, having headquarters in Mumbai, India, was established in 2010. 

7. MCX Stock Exchange of India, having headquarters in Mumbai, India, was established in 2008. 

8. Multi Commodity Exchange of India, having headquarters in Mumbai, India, was established in 2003. 

9. Bangalore Stock Exchange(BgSE), having headquarters in Banglore, India, was established in 1963. Total 595 companies are listed in BgSE.
